Dr. Afzal Javed

Dr. Afzal Javed is a Consultant Psychiatrist at Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust at Nuneaton. He is an Honorary Clinical Associate Teacher at Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick UK. He also holds the honorary position of Chairman Pakistan Psychiatric Research Centre, Fountain House, Lahore (Pakistan).

He graduated from King Edward Medical College Lahore, Pakistan and received higher specialised training in Psychiatry from Pakistan and UK (from Royal Edinburgh Hospital, University of Edinburgh and Institute of Psychiatry & Maudsley Hospital London).

He has served the UK Royal College of Psychiatrists as Deputy / Associate Registrar, member Board of International Affairs of the College, Chairman of West Midlands Division of the College & one of the lead College office bearers for SAS doctors & Patients & Carers groups. He was also elected as executive committee member of the College Faculty of Rehabilitation and Social Psychiatry & represents the faculty at Education and Training Committee of the College.

His role in international psychiatry is highlighted by his involvement with a number of professional organisations. He is currently working as:

Dr. Eman Amari

Dr. Eman Al Amari works as a licensed mental health professional, in the area of family and psychological counseling, with an extensive hands-on experience more than 13 years working with families and couples in different areas of clinical psychology/psychotherapy, from family to couple, child and individual counseling. Her expertise is in administrating most of psychometric evaluations tests and assessments for behavioral and mental health problems and disorders needed for diagnosing most child behavioral problems and disorders, such as Autism, ADHD, ADD, Child depression, Anxiety, etc.

In addition, Dr. Amari is experienced and trained in substance abuse diagnosis and treatment approaches working with the best Drug and rehabilitation hospitals in Saudi Arabia. She is also a Public Health Practitioner specialized in the area of Health Promotion and Behavioral Science. Dr. Amari established and opened a Family Consultation Center for family and marital counseling, the first of its kind at DHCC in Dubai, UAE. She is the head of the Art of Family and Marriage Therapy Center, located in Dubai, UAE.

Dr. Amari is a clinical psychologist with training and a Master Degree from the Clinical psychology and family/ marriage counselling department from one of the prestigious U.S. schools, The University of Houston. She is also a graduate of the University of Texas–School of Public Health, with a PhD degree specialized in Health Promotion and Behavioural Sciences .

Dr. Amari is a psychotherapist who applies an ethical framework and follows expected guidelines in her profession. She had worked with emotional health and well-being issues for many years now and has gained much insight and the respect of many professionals in the field. Her advisory team is made up of many professionals who are all specialists in their chosen field, including psychiatrists, pediatricians, and psychologists.  Together they provide an excellent quality of service. Dr. Amal Al Halyan

Dr Amal Al Halyan is a senior professional in Health & Safety Department in one of the leading Oil and Gas Companies in the UAE. She is involved in promoting positive organizational culture and enhancing safety culture.

Through her rich 17 years of experience, Dr Amal conducted survey projects on health, mental health, health care tourism and demography. She initiated the first Child and Adolescents Mental Health multidisciplinary services in Dubai, UAE; which had a positive impact on community perception for child mental health and well-being.

Dr Amal is a graduate of College of Medicine and Health Sciences, the United Arab Emirates University. She also holds Postgraduate Diploma in Child and Adolescents Psychiatry from Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College in London; and Executive Masters in Health Care Administration from Zayed University, Abu Dhabi.

Currently, Dr Amal is on a spiritual journey involving a search for meaning in life. She has special curiosity in understanding the role of self-awareness and how it is reflected in actions and behaviors. She encourages others to start their own journeys; and provides them with sensible support through creating conversation that brings curiosity, exploration and self-reflection.



Dr. Amer Saadeddin

Dr. Amer Saadeddin is a well-respected and highly regarded Arab Board Certified Consultant Psychiatrist with over 28 years of experience in public and private inpatient and outpatient settings.

He obtained his M.B.B.Ch. in 1985 from Baghdad University and subsequently specialized in Psychiatry in France where he received his A.F.S.A in 1994.

Dr. Amer has practiced as the Psychiatrist for Dubai Police for over six years where he cared for the policeman and their families and extended his service to prisoners and detainees. He was also the Community Psychiatrist for American Hospital Dubai and Neuro Spinal Hospital. He is a licensed Aeromedical Examiner for GCAA-UAE.

Dr. Amer has set up and runs support groups for ADHD and MS and has appeared in several media, including TV, radio and various print media, passionately discussing topics related to psychiatric disorders. He is frequently invited to deliver lectures and conduct workshops at international conferences and meetings.



Dr. Ammar Al Banna MD, FRCPC, IFAPA

Head of Child Mental Health Center of Excellence and Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with broad in-patient and outpatient clinical experience for children of all developmental stages and their families.

Canadian Board Certified, trained at McGill University and the University of Toronto. Proficient researcher, recipient of research grants and peer reviewed publications.

Award recipient for teaching and research accomplishments. Strong leadership skills including spearheading programs in different countries. Currently establishing & leading the first child mental health program in the UAE.

Founder of the first professional society for child and adolescent psychiatrist and allied professionals in the UAE. Enthusiastic advocator for child mental health. Adept communicator, provides care to adults and children and conducts presentations on a range of mental health topics.

Fluent in English and Arabic and able to adapt and prosper in multicultural settings; trained in Canada, United Kingdom, and United Arab Emirates.



Ms. Amna Al Mutawa

Amna Al Muttawa hold Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology and psychology from University of Kent at Canterbury in 2006. She obtained her Master degree in Clinical Psychology from United Arab Emirates University in 2015.

She had experience working with women and children for nearly 12 years. She worked on children with developmental issues, parents with gifted kids and abuse and trauma cases. She is specialized in domestic violence cases as she runs a domestic violence support group for women victims who resides in DFWAC shelter.




Dr. Asad Sadiq

Consultant Psychiatrist & Managing Director of the Psychiatry & Therapy Centre

Dr Sadiq is also an Executive Coach, Soft Skills trainer and has a MBA from London Business School.

He has over 16 years of experience in Psychiatry and prior to coming to Dubai he was a Clinical Director in the NHS. In addition he is also a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and has authored research papers in the medical literature. He has also held various regional roles in the NHS including North West Clinical IT Lead.

He has a strong record of voluntary work with the award winning Bury Involvement Group (Queen’s Award) and in post-war Libya. Dr Sadiq has taught extensively at the University of Manchester (Medical School) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has run “Soft Skills” courses in the NHS for doctors and corporate staff. He has spoken at numerous conferences on psychiatry & mental well-being and is an experienced motivational speaker.



Dr. Charlotte Awad Kamel

Charlotte Awad Kamel is currently a Consultant Psychiatrist in Ministry of Health Kingdom of Bahrain and Associate Professor in The royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Medical University of Bahrain.

Charlotte Kamel was graduated from Cairo University in 1975 and got her DPM and MRC from Royal College of Physicians, London.

She is honorary member of the American Psychiatric Association since 1997. Dr. Firas Al Najjar

Dr .Firas Annajjar is a consultant in Emergency Medicine in RHTC.

He is also the Residency Director of Emergency Medicine in Dubai Residency Training Program (DRTP) and had the honor of being a part of the program from the time of its establishment.

Prior to that, he was in charge of the EM Residency Program in Jordan University Hospital- the very same university where he trained!

Dr. Gamal Youssef

Gamal Youssef is a Consultant Phoniatrics in DHA and Director of Phoniatrics Unit , Voice Clinic and Speech Theraphy Unit in Dubai Hospital.

He received his MBBCh with excellence grade with honor from Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University. He has also MD in Phoniatrics from Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University.

Dr. Ghanem Al Hassani

Dr Ghanem is a qualified and practicing physician, having completed his MBBS at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Al Ain, in 2001. He obtained his Arab Board of Psychiatry (AB Psych) in December, 2008. Then moved on to do a subspecialty in Forensic Psychiatry from King's College London by completing a Master Degree in Clinical Forensic Psychiatry.

As he believes that management and administrative skills are vital for any profession he did an Executive Masters in Health Care Administration (EMHCA) at Sheikh Zayed University - Abu Dhabi, in 2007. He is key player in leading excellence and quality within his organization.

Dr. Haifa Madi

Dr Haifa Madi, MBBS, MPH is currently Advisor to the UAE MoH. Before that she was the Director of Health Protection and Promotion at WHO/EMRO.

Prior to that, Dr Madi was the Acting Director of Health, Deputy Director of Health and Chief Health Protection and Promotion Family Health of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) responsible for the different components of the Health programme of Refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank and Gaza.

Hind is currently an Acting Director at the Student Counseling Center in Zayed University. She joined Zayed University as a Senior Student Counselor in 2013. She works as a professional counselor at Tabyeen Psychotherapy Center since 2012.

Hiromi Willingham M.S.W, L.C.S.W

Hiromi is an American licensed psychotherapist, a certified Hakomi therapist and trainer. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Zayed University. 

She has been a practicing psychotherapist since 2001.  Hiromi began her career by focusing on infant mental health for seven years, including working with a highly respected leader in that field,  Michael Trout, founder of the Infant Parent Institute in Illinois.  Since 2006, Hiromi has been in private practice seeing individuals and couples with depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship difficulties.  Her passion is to bring truth, virtue, and beauty into the world and to promote wellness and health in a holistic manner.  She is also a certified infant massage instructor.  Hiromi has been practicing mindfulness and holistic healing for more than 20 years.  On a volunteer basis, she has been teaching Okada health methods (subtle energy therapy, nutrition, and flower therapy) through MOA for over 20 years. 

Her translation of the book, Practice of Wholeness by Hakomi trainer Lorena Monda, was published in Japan in 2014.

Prof. Hisham Ramy

Hisham Ramy got his bachelor of medicine and surgery degree ( in 1990 and his master degree in Neurology and Psychiatry in 1994 from Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University (Excellent with honours) .

Dr. Karuna Anand

Dr. Karuna Anand is a consultant psychiatrist at Al Zahra Hospital, Sharjah. She is a Diplomate of and Board Certified by The American Board of psychiatry and Neurology, with more than twenty years of clinical experience in the field of psychiatry. She has a great deal of experience in managing common mental illnesses, neuro-developmnetal disorders, severe and enduring mental illnesses including Bipolar Affective Disorder, depression, perinatal psychiatry, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders and consultation liaison psychiatry.

After completing her psychiatric training at Loyola University in Chicago in 1998, Dr. Anand cared for persons with a wide spectrum of mental health issues through working in both public governmental and private sector. More recently, Dr. Anand has helped the State of California, Department of Correction in activation of California Health Care Facility, Stockton, a brand new billion dollar, USA’s biggest health care facility to house the state’s sickest inmates,. She served in the leadership capacity for 3 years both as a senior and then as a Chief of Psychiatry prior to moving to UAE to join Zahra.

Dr. Nadia Dabbagh

Dr Nadia Dabbagh is a UK-trained Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who has been working in Dubai Health Authority (DHA) since April 2011 developing Child Psychiatry services at Rashid Hospital as well as contributing to the establishment the Child Mental Health Centre of Excellence at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital prior to its departure from the DHA. She currently covers Child and Adolescent Psychiatry outpatient, inpatients and liaison services throughout the DHA. Dr Dabbagh is Program Leader for Dubai’s Mental Health Strategy 2016-2021.

Dr Dabbagh embarked on her training to become a psychiatrist over 20 years ago in 1993, initially doing her undergraduate medical studies and research at University College London, then General Psychiatry training in the Royal Free and Associated Hospitals followed by Completion of her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Specialist Consultant Training (CCT) at the Tavistock Clinic, London.

Dr Dabbagh has a BSc and PhD in Medical Anthropology and an MSc in Psychiatric Research. She is the author of the book 'Suicide in Palestine: Narratives of Despair' as well as several published articles in international peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Nasser Shuriquie

Dr. Shuriquie is a Consultant Psychiatrist (MD FRCPsych),the Deputy General Manager, and Clinical Director at Al Rashid Hospital Centre. He was trained in Jordan at the Royal Medical Services, and at the Maudsley Hospital and the Institute of Psychiatry in London, United Kingdom. Dr. Shuriquie has been a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists since 1997, and was previously Head of the Psychiatric Department at the Royal Jordanian Medical Services. Currently, he is a member of the Jordanian and Arabic Examination Board of Psychiatry, licensing psychiatrists to be specialists of psychiatry in Jordan and the Arab world.

Prof. Philip Gorwood

Professor Gorwood studied medicine from 1982-1988, and specialised in psychiatry in 1988. He is currently full Professor of Psychiatry at Sainte-Anne Hospital and Head of the CMME department [Clinique des Maladies Mentales et de L’Encéphale, with 60 beds], teaching at the Paris-Descartes University. He is also Head of one team research at INSERM (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche MEdical) research unit 894 (Center of Psychiatry and Neuroscience) devoted to genetic vulnerability of psychiatric and addictive disorders.

Professor Gorwood has published over 240 scientific articles (h-index=50) and 24 book chapters. He has served on 16 editorial boards for journals in psychiatry, neuroscience and genetics, and is editor-in-chief of the journal European Psychiatry (IF=3.9).

He is president-elect (2017-2018) of the European Psychiatric Association, becoming president in 2019-2020. He joined the scientific advisory (SAB) board of the ECNP for addictive disorders in 2009. Philip Gorwood is the president of the national associations on alcoholism (FRA) and eating disorders (AFDAS-TCA). In 1992, Professor Gorwood received the Lilly ‘First Communication’ award and later in 1997, the French Association for Biological Psychiatry ‘Best Communication of the Year’ award.

He has had his distinguished Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Medicine from National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bangalore and Doctor of Medicine training from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and won Bronze medal.

Dr. Salwa Al Suwaidi

Dr. Salwa Alsuwaidi joined the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in 1999 to specialize in Internal Medicine. Currently holds MRCP (UK) and PhD Arab Board of Internal Medicine as well as a Post Graduate Diploma of Gerontology & Geriatrics.

The first Emirati Geriatrician in DHA and had a great role in establishing the first geriatric unit in Rashid Hospital in Dubai in 2007. In addition, she was a pioneer in establishing the first Dubai rehabilitation centre for the elderly, taking care of all the responsibilities related to it as a Project Manager.

Currently she is the Director of the Family Gathering center. She is also the president of the Emirates Seniors’ Friends Association and a board member of the Middle East Academy for the Medicine of Ageing (MEAMA).

Dr. Salwa was a winner of the Emirates Women Award in 2012. She was a winner of Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for creative women in 2013. She received Medal Pride of UAE in 2014 as part of Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Excellence in Government Performance, and was a winner of DHA internal award in the year 2016 as Best Director of service center.



Ms. Shazya Lakadawala

Mrs. Shazya Rashid Lakadawala is a licensed Clinical Psychologist at Rashid Hospital, Dubai Health Authority (DHA). She has more than 15 years of clinical experience, and she uses an elective approach when dealing with her clients and patients.

She provides individual, couples , family, children and group psychotherapy, counselling, crises intervention and psychometric testing both in inpatient and in outpatient setting. Dr. Toba Oluboka

Dr. Oluboka graduated from University of Ilorin Medical School in 1986. He started his psychiatry residency training at his Alma mater in 1989.

Following a national award as the best resident in Psychiatry training in Nigeria in 1991, he arrived at the University of Western Ontario in 1992 as a Research fellow with the Department of Psychiatry for two years in Mood Disorders. He subsequently worked as a research assistant with the department until 1995 when he went to Dalhousie University for his Canadian Psychiatry Specialty training and graduated June 2000.

Dr. Oluboka participated in several clinical studies and published in Peer-Reviewed Reputable Journals in Bipolar Disorders, treatment refractory schizophrenia, measurement-based clinical practice and Clinical Pharmacology. He is still active in Research focusing on schizophrenia.

He has been involved in Clinical Program development and was the Medical Director of Clinical Rehabilitation and Evaluation Unit (CREU) program, an Innovative Regional Specialized Tertiary services for Persons with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness. This Program was a recipient of the Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-term Care ACE Award for Outstanding Achievement in Psychiatry in 2005.

He has participated in many Educational Program development and Continue Medical Education projects and has continued to present in several national and international conferences.

He currently works with the Alberta Health Services as the Medical Director of the Psychiatric Emergency Services and Psychiatric Outreach Response Team; also a staff psychiatrist and the Site Chief for Addiction and Mental Health Services at the South Health Campus, Calgary Zone and holds an assistant clinical Professor position with the Department of Psychiatry, University of Calgary.

Currently, the nurse in charge and Management Team member of Family Gathering Center since 2015. Family Gathering is the only governmental long term care facility in Dubai that provides comprehensive 24-hours services of medical and nursing care to elderly UAE nationals of Dubai . She willingly make the most of every given opportunity and challenges encountered in the care of the elderly to promote active aging and quality life to the elderly.

She received last year the “You’re My Pride” award for her long years of service in DHA. She was awarded as the Best Nurse of Al Mankhool Health Center by the Director of Nursing- PHC in 2009. She is also a recepient of Excellence in Leadership Award from DHA during the celebration of International Nurses day in 2008. She received a Certificate of Appreciation to a Nomination for the Category of Distinguished Technical Project-DGEP 2005.
